UPDATE:

Time to be heard!
A Public Hearing on Monroe County's 2010 proposed budget has been set for Thursday, December 3rd before the Legislature's Ways and Means Committee at 5:30 pm in the County Office Building at 39 West Main Street, Rochester.

The County STILL has a $30+ million operating deficit. Obama stimulus dollars filled the hole this year and are proposed to do the same in 2010. But in 2011 and onward, the deficit grows. Maggie & Co. have no plan to fill it. The result? Tax increases, a state-imposed control board or both.

Worse? County leaders keep fiddling; we've got Nero on the Genesee.

But don't give up hope, make a difference:

O
ur cou
nty is STILL at a crossroads. Votes are counted and we lost this battle.

But the truth is all the reasons to begin this fight remain: in 2010, the budget has yet another deficit, this time filled by $30 million in federal stimulus dollars. (Thank you President Obama.)
Maggie Brooks' budget proposes to hold the tax rate stable, but increases the tax levy. That means our taxes increase by $7.4 million. Next year, the deficit could be as much as $100 million. And Monroe’s bond rating is STILL the worst in New York State.

The facts haven't changed: parks are at risk, patronage bloats spending and the guys who got us here are still in charge.

I t's not time to quit; we need to redouble our efforts. Please join me to create a vital, effective organization of citizens -- all parties -- that will track county government and spread news of new wacky deals, backroom scheming and just plain bad budgeting. We'll attend legislative meetings and use the Freedom of Information Act to get the truth we need and deserve.

We won't quit until we transform the way Monroe County spends our money and does our business.
